Closing early.

The weather is turning to the worse, making roads rather unsafe.  We will be closing early so as to get home safe.

Have a safe New Year.  Keep it on the road!

New years!

From all of us at Milltown we would like to thank you all for an amazing year.  This year represented a year of firsts, and a year of change at the shop.  We have been through some huge challenges, and have experienced some huge highlights.  Thank you for your patronage, for your company, and for your friendship!

Here's to a new year filled with great riding, good friends, and a whole lot of good times to come.  Have a good one.

We will be open normal hours today, and we will be closed tomorrow for the holiday.

Fat Tuesday

We had a great ride last night.  Trails were near perfect.  The temperature was a balmy 27 degrees.  The company was excellent.  We ended up with 6 riders, not bad for a short notice ride.

We left down town Northfield and headed out to Dundas on the Sechler park snowmobile path.  The trails here was probably the hardest condition wise of the night.  The front end of my Fargo pitched wildly as I tried to keep it going in a straight line.  The others didn't have much trouble at any point, though the trial was not on an even pitch here.

From Dundas we rounded Menards and headed up Radar hill.  Most guys were in low-low to craw up it, it's a killer.  Once on top the snowmobile trail heads down across a big open field back to County 1.

Curt's adventure Pugsley.  He's still working on little set up things, but it looks and rides great!

Waiting around for me at the Mill Town Trail head.

We had a nice little spin.  We'll be doing it again next Tuesday at a yet to be announced location.  Have a great day.  We hope to see you out there soon!

Phone's down

Our phone line appears to be out of order.  If you need to call the shop, call my cell at 507-581-6198.  Sorry for the trouble, we hope to have this sorted out soon.

17" Mukluk Available

We have had a customer back out of a 17" Mukluk Complete.  This is one of the bikes we've assembled from a frameset to be very close to original spec as the bike comes from Salsa.  The bike is $1700, reflecting the increased cost of parts individually, and added labor for frame up assembly.  This will be the last Mukluk we will have available until March, and I expect it will sell rather quickly.

If you'd like to purchase this bike, call me at the shop at 507-331-2636.

Inaugural Fat Tuesday Ride

As talk started of Mukluks and Pugsleys months ago, the illustrious Mr Oney had a great idea for a ride series.  He thought it made logical sense to continue shop group mtb rides through winter, but at various locals around the state. Ben dubbed these rides, the Fat Tuesday rides.

With the proliferation of snow we've had, and with the exponential increase in the number of fat bikes now out to customers, it seems logical to start in on these rides now.  The first ride will be held in Northfield this coming Tuesday.  We will meet at Goodbye Blue Monday at 7pm, and we will ride for approximately 10 miles, or as much as the group would like.  The pace will be post Christmas semi sluggish, and will be generally slower and relaxed.  The idea is to ride out on snow slowly enough to have conversation, and to be close enough to one another to have a good laugh when people inevitably fall!

We hope to see as many of you there as possible.  We will likely head to a local establishment for some refreshment afterward.  It should be a good time, and worth coming for.  This will be the first location of many. We are talking to some like minded folks in the Twin Cities to line up a few rides at other local trail locations, so we should be coming to a trail near you soon.

Curtis and I hope you all have had a wonderful holiday season with friends and family.  Here's looking forward to a new year filled with much more of the like!  See you Tuesday.

Frame bag pattern

It doesn't look like much now, but it will be really cool when finished. This will be the pattern for my Mukluk's frame bag.  I am thinking of a long top pocket with a smaller lower pocket for tube/tools/fire stuff. Christmas will be really busy for Meg and I, but I hope to start on this next week.  More to follow.

Gary Fisher Sawyer

Trek is finally shipping a bike I have been waiting for for a long time, the Sawyer from the Fisher Collection.  This is a killer looking cruiser 29er.  It comes set up as a geared bike with nicely speced parts, but features sliding dropouts and split rear triangle for SS and even belt compatibility.

This is a seriously good looking bike.  Priced at the very reasonable $1299.99 these offer a lot of style for the money.

We have two 17.5" bikes, and a 19" bike allocated for us.  The 21" bikes are also available.  Give us a shout if you'd like to make one yours!

Holiday Schedule

We will be open for business as normal through Thursday of this week.  Friday hours will be 10-3pm, and we will be closed Saturday for Christmas.

Tomorrow will be the last day we will be able to put in orders for products and still get them before Christmas.  I will need to know if you want anything before 5pm tomorrow if you'd like something.  We do have a lot of items that would make great last minute gifts for any biker.  We also offer gift certificates in any amount.

Stop in and let us help you find that last minute present for your loved ones!

We're alive.

We are alive and kicking, shoveled out, and our books are all straightened away for the end of the year.  Last week was a bit of a chore to say the least.  I always look at bookwork with a certain amount of high school homework dread.  I know it has to be done.  I fully well realize the benefits it provides, as well as the necessity for keeping proper books.  None of that makes me any more excited every month, (and certainly not at the end of the year,) to dive in and set the numbers right.

Last week was a marathon.  It was the time it worked to run through everything.  I checked every invoice, double checked every shipping and cash credit, and  and make sure it's ready for tax time.  Orders for end of the year stock and upcoming projects were laid out and double checked. With the weekend snow came hours of shoveling and cleaning both at home and at the shop Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday Meg and I finally got a bit of a break just in time to start the work week again today.

Last week was also a week of preparation for our next shipment of Mukluks.  As the complete bikes were sold out rather early, we are building up some framesets into bikes very close to factory spec.  These are all sold, and framesets are sold out, so we will unfortunately not have any others in stock for sale. Curtis' bike and my frame should also be in soon, so we are preparing for that as well.

Last week was great actually.  Everything that needed to get done is done, and all of the other projects are coming together.  Today we received the build kits for the coming frames save for a few parts.  Those parts will be coming in throughout this week.  Spokes for five wheel sets were ordered today, and those will be coming yet this week.  A shipment of Lake MXZ 302 boots will also be coming this week as well.  It's starting out as another busy week.  This has been our busiest end of the season ever and things are not slowing down much at all yet.

Update

The roads down here are in really good shape.  Everything is ready to roll at the shop.  Party on!

Schedule of Events.

Ladies and gentleman, here's the low down on what to expect tonight.  Folks are welcome to come whenever, I've thrown out the arbitrary number of 4pm as a start time.  We will be leading a bike ride for those interested starting at 5:30pm.  This will be an in the woods ride, and we did get 8"s of snow last night.  Be sure to bring an appropriate bike, clothing, lights, and be ready for a slog!  The illustrious Mr. Oney will be leading the ride on a route of his choosing based on trail conditions.  Food is set to be served at around 6:30-7pm.  This will probably change a bit depending on cook times, and it'll be a self served affair buffet when ready. Other than those things, the night is unscripted.  Come on over and enjoy the company of other bikers, share some tales around the fire out back, and have a great time.  We hope to see you all later today.  Have a good one.

Andrew's black White wheels

Here's the latest set of really nice road wheels to leave the shop.  Andrew wanted a light weight traditional wheel build for general performance type riding.  These should fit the bill rather nicely.  These again are White Industries gorgeous H2 and H3 road hubs.  These are in black, and are laced with Sapim Lazer and Race spokes with brass nipples.  They are laced in a three cross pattern, and they weigh just 1533 gms for the pair.

The rims are DT's classic RR 415 road rims.  These are very high quality rims.  They are quite light, and are very straight out of the box.

I love the way the black Sapim spokes look on these hubs.

The rear is paired with a nice Shimano 6700 12-25 cassette.

All in all a great looking pair of wheels.  They should serve Andrew for many years of reliable service.

Rolling Darryl

Rolling Darryls have started arriving from Surly.  These are by far the nicest fat bike rims I've ever seen.  They are quite light at around 870gms, and fit and finish are top notch.  The bead seat is very well defined, and should eliminate any possibility of tire slipping.  It may even allow these to be set up tubeless.  These are available in quite limited supply right now.  I do have one set available for sale, the others have been sold already.
These would make quite an upgrade to any stock Mukluk or Pugsley wheel set.  Enjoy.

Profile shot.

Impressive.

Free entry for the IA Triple D Winter Race!

I got an exciting email last night from Lance Andre, the promoter of the Triple D Winter Race held in Dubuque Iowa.  He has given us one free entry to be given away for his race.  We will be giving the entry away Saturday night at our Mukluk release party/winter open house.  The winner will be decided through a yet to be disclosed contest.  You DO need to be present to participate and win. Thanks again to Lance for the opportunity to play a small part in this.

Here's the 2011 race flier.  More information on the race is available at their website @ www.tripledrace.blogspot.com  Check it out.

We hope to see all of you here Saturday night.  We are really excited about everything.  Again, bring whom you would like, and anything you'd like.  If you have a snow/fat bike, bring it on down.  We will have indoor parking for your bikes, and hope to have a lot of different set ups here for people to look at and discuss.
